Call for Papers: International Studies of Economics (ISE) Special Issue on Housing, Migration, and Demographic Change: The Spatial Dynamics of Local Markets

In China and across the globe, large migration flows and significant demographic changes are altering cities, with spatially interdependent effects on housing and labor markets across regions. In this Call we solicit high quality theoretical and empirical papers on this issue and welcome papers employing different research designs, including applied microeconomic methods and quantitative spatial models.
Topics may include (but are not limited to): immigration and internal migration; fertility, aging, and population composition change; housing and real estate markets; transportation infrastructure and regional integration; labor mobility and spatial sorting; institutional barriers and public service provision; agglomeration and productivity effects; neighborhoods and residential location choice; and place-based policies.
Submission deadline is set at December 31, 2026 and publication is scheduled for the September Issue, 2027. Given the short period between the submission deadline and publication date, we will guarantee a quick turnaround for the special issue submissions.

The ISE welcomes submissions of theoretical and empirical papers from all fields of economics, particularly those with an emphasis on the Chinese economy and other emerging, developing or transition economies.
