ISE 2023 Best Paper Award Announcement

We are pleased to announce that the International Studies of Economics (ISE) 2023 “Best Paper Award” goes to“It pays to have guanxi: How social capital affects household income in China”byKai Wu (School of Finance, Central University of Finance and Economics), Yi Liu (School of Business, Stevens Institute of Technology), Yifan Xu (School of Finance, Central University of Finance and Economics) and He Sun (ICBC Wealth Management Co., Ltd.).

In this paper, the authors examine the role of social capital in household income using three waves of household surveys from 2011 to 2015 in China and find that gift expenditure as a proxy for social capital is positively associated with total household income. The findings highlight the importance of social capital in household economic welfare in China. 

The selection process was launched in early 2024, marking the journal’s second annual best paper award. The aim of the award is to acknowledge academic excellence of publications of the year in the ISE，attract more high-quality submissions, and promote academic exchanges. The winner will receive a certificate plus a cash prize of 3000 RMB (pre-tax).

An Evaluation Committee, including the Editor, Executive Editor, Co-editors of the ISE, has been established to evaluate the papers, propose a nomination list, and select the winner.

ISE 第二届（2023年度）最佳论文奖评选结果公告

ISE 第二届（2023年度）最佳论文奖评选工作于近日完成，作者吴锴（中央财经大学金融学院）、刘益（史蒂文斯理工学院商学院）、许一帆（中央财经大学金融学院）与孙赫（中国工商银行财富管理中心）合作发表于2023年第3期的“It pays to have guanxi: How social capital affects household income in China”一文获奖。

本文作者利用中国 2011 至 2015 年的三波家庭调查研究了社会资本在家庭收入中的作用，发现作为社会资本替代物的礼品支出与家庭总收入呈正相关。研究结果凸显了社会资本在中国家庭经济福利中的重要性。

设立ISE年度最佳论文奖的目的在于表彰优秀学术成果、吸引更多高质量论文、促进学术交流。评选范围为当年出版的自由投稿。期刊将为获奖稿件作者颁发荣誉证书及税前3000元人民币的现金奖励。

本届最佳论文奖评选工作于2024年初启动，由ISE主编团队共同组成评审委员会提名推荐论文名单并最终选定获奖论文。
